The UES Gets Irish

There’s an old Irish saying that says,
“There are many good reasons for drinking,One has just entered my head. If a man doesn't drink when he's living, How in the hell can he drink when he's dead?”
And on Saturday March 17th it’s certainly a great reason to enjoy the unseasonably warm weather and enjoy some drinks after a long and grueling work week. Finally everyone can enjoy the holiday because it finally fell on a weekend. There is a plethora of events and parties this weekend, and if you haven’t planned them yet here are some great ideas for you to experience…

1) St. Patrick’s Day Parade

The annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade is the oldest and biggest of its kind since 1762, travelling up 5th Avenue from 44th to 86th Streets. Regardless of the disallowance of floats, autos or exhibits, you can either join one of the over 150,000 marchers every year or just be a spectator. The New York City St. Patrick's Day Parade will take place on Saturday, March 17, 2012 beginning at 11 a.m. on 5th Avenue around 44th Street.

The best time and location if you want to avoid the crowds that mob is to wait until later in the day when and catch the end of the march around 86th Street, between 2 and 3 p.m. Areas around 62nd and 64th Streets are only accessible with a ticket. The largest crowd gathers around. Patrick's Cathedral but thins out as the parade travels further towards the 70’s.
