Springtime Openings

Ah, springtime on the Upper East Side. The weather gets warmer, the days get longer, and everyone gets a little bit happier, right? Well, maybe the weather isn't that warm, but it's still Spring and that means there's a lot going on here on the Upper East Side. Inspired by March Madness and the knowledge that it has to get warm sometime, let's head uptown into Yorkville and see what the new season brings us.

Straight From The Market

Straight From The Market is a new grocery store opening at the corner of 92nd St. and 1st Avenue, where the Yorkville Gourmet Deli used to be (you can see the old sign is still up). They are having a Grand Opening the next few days, featuring free coffee and snacks and plenty of good deals. Straight From The Market, 408 A E. 92nd St at 1st Avenue.

Timmy's By The River

Timmy's By The River is a new diner-style restaurant located on York Avenue at 91st St. Timmy's combines a classic American diner menu with some upscale decor, and features a good bar selection as well. Check for daily specials. Timmy's By The River, 1737 York Ave b/w 90th & 91st. 212-860-9191

Asphalt Green

After you've eaten a full meal at Timmy's and want to burn some calories, look no further than across the street. Asphalt Green, the public park on York Avenue between 90th and 91st streets, features a huge area of astro-turf fields for all kinds of games. Get some buddies together for a game of soccer, or take your kids out for some pre-season batting practice. Open space and sports fields are a rarity in Manhattan, so make sure to take advantage of Asphalt Green and other public parks on the Upper East Side this spring.
